Cash – Gifts of cash may be made by check (and online banking), credit card, and via the Web site giving option.
Retirement Plan – The donor gives the balance of an IRA or other retirement account to the Foundation or at the time of his or her death. This gift can avoid significant taxation of retirement plan assets, particularly if given at the time of death, while at the same time providing a gift to the Foundation.
Bequest – The donor provides for a gift by making a provision in his or her will.
Life insurance – Give surplus life insurance coverage or purchase a new policy with the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Foundation as the owner. The donor also would agree to pay the premiums associated with the policy.
Appreciated Securities – Gifts of stock may be advantageous to the donor for funding endowment gifts. The donor may give appreciated securities with a low cost basis/appreciated market value and avoid capital gains taxes.
Lead Trust – Donor contributes cash; securities or other property to a trust and the trust makes fixed annual payments to the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Foundation for a specified term of years. When the trust ends, the remaining principal goes to the donor’s beneficiaries.
Charitable Remainder Unitrust – The trust funded by the donor pays fixed annual payments to the donor and/or other specified individuals for life or a fixed term of years. Examples of income payments: to the donor and a spouse for life or a fixed term of years, to children, grandchildren, or other individuals for a fixed term of years. The donor can make additional gifts to the trust and qualify for additional tax deductions. The donor pays no capital gains tax on appreciated assets donated.
Charitable Remainder Annuity Unitrust – The trust funded by the donor pays fixed annual payments to the donor and/or other specified individuals for life or a fixed term of years. Examples of income payments: to the donor and a spouse for life or a fixed term of years, to children, grandchildren, grandchildren, or other individuals for a fixed term of years. The donor pays no capital gains tax on appreciated assets donated to the trust.
Personal Property – Any gifts of this type are subject to review by the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Foundation.
